Another Day in Bed Today?

Because of my constant battle with sleep, I woke up at almost 1 pm, but when I did wake up, I woke up feeling like absolute crap. I know none of you know me yet, so none of you know my health issues. Hell, some of my health issues are new to me too. The last few years, off and on, I’ve had issues with stuff asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, constipation, etc. Well, this year, it’s only gotten worse, especially over the last couple months. Not the asthma and all that. I’m a type 2 diabetic. That has gotten out of hand with an a1c of 10.1 right now when it used to be a controlled 6 point something last year. I was stupid and wasn’t taking care of myself and now I’m having a lot of problems getting everything back on track, but my diabetes isn’t what’s probably going to keep me in bed today. I’ll give you a little couple-month history here. A couple months ago I started working with my sister as her assistant for her business (she’s a kitchen and bath designer/cabinet salesperson) and one day I started feeling nauseous and just sick to my stomach so she told me to lay down in her guest bedroom. I went home early that day and didn’t go back until Monday or Tuesday . Well the next week I believe it was Friday it started again except I don’t think I’ve been back since. I’m still her assistant but let me start where this continues with what happened with me getting sick. I got what I thought was a stomach virus. You know…the extreme nausea, diarrhea, fever, just misery. This lasted a week and then all I was left with was nausea and some trouble breathing which I didn’t have the week before so I finally go see my Dr. I told him what was going on and he thought that the week before I had Covid. He did a Covid test that had to be sent out and he thought that the trouble breathing that I was dealing with right then had to deal with my asthma.

Another week or so and I’m still sick. Breathing’s okay but I’m still really nauseous and this time I’m having pain in my stomach and in and around my belly button and, God, it hurts. I set up another appointment with my Dr for the next day. I went in to see him. He checks me over and is concerned. He prescribed me an antibiotic ointment for my belly button bc it seemed infected but it didn’t explain the pain in my stomach. He was worried it was my appendix so he wanted me to go to the emergency room, just in case. So, since I drove myself in my uncle’s car (my car isn’t legal right now), I had to drive back home to get my uncle to drive me to the emergency room. The results from that visit was that I had Colitis and was put on antibiotics, pain meds, and nausea meds for I believe 7 days. They gave me the first dose of all the meds in the ER so I go home and get all the meds the next morning from the pharmacy. I took all of my meds over the next week, except the pain meds. There were still some of those left over. The nausea was still there. I was still feeling miserable, so I called my Dr and told him what was going on and set up an appointment to see him and for a follow-up yada yada yada. He put me on two other antibiotics and said that if those don’t work, to call the office and he will refer me to a specialist because something else had to be going on. These antibiotics were for five days. So I’m taking these antibiotics and….nothing. Still feel sick as a dog. So they refer me to the gastroenterologist I started seeing and he was nice. He looked at my records from the emergency room I went to. He saw that I had a fatty liver (I knew that one). My liver is at 21 cm (a normal liver is 15 cm). He wanted me to do some blood work and some other lab work I’d rather keep off a public forum, a liver elastography, and an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. I did the lab work not too long after the appointment and the endoscopy/colonoscopy was done on October 19th. From what they told me and what is on the paperwork they gave me when they sent me home, they found polyps in my stomach (which I think they sent off to a lab), GERD with esophagitis, gastritis, second degree hemorrhoids, and (this is the one that worries me the most) a diaphragmatic hernia. After the procedure, I was bloated for a couple days but feeling ok except when I ate certain things but I’m on a certain “diet” now. It’s not really a diet, it’s just a different lifestyle change. If I’m going to feel well at all, I have to eat a certain way. I didn’t eat well at all yesterday and I guess that’s why I feel so crappy today. Could be why I’m cranky too. Today I’m going to try to eat better, maybe some soup or bone broth. Who knows? But now you know some things about my physical health right now. I see my gastroenterologist again for a follow-up on November 4th. I have yet to do the elastography. When I tried to set up the elastography before the procedure, I couldn’t find anyone to do it before then so I gave up for the moment but I need to try again. I’ll try again in a little while. I have to call Memorial Herman imaging center back from the other day when they called and left a message. Lol. Y’all have a better day than me. Don’t let life get you down. I’m trying not to let it. Keep smiling.

  1. I am sorry that you are dealing with so many health issues. I hope the doctors can start doing something to actually deal with them. I have asthma, COPD, and bronchiectasis. I also had umbilical hernia surgery last December. I was able to start working out in February and it has done wonders for me. I hope that you can likewise get your health back. It makes such a huge difference.
